Samhain meets the Enneagram Gathering (Nov 13th - 15th 2026)

A Weekend Retreat for Men

Brothers,

  • Do you feel a deep longing for a more truthful and meaningful life?
  • Have you lost your focus and find yourself in need of direction?
  • Are you curious about the Enneagram and its power to unlock genuine personal growth?

If these questions resonate with you, read on.

In Irish mythology, Samhain is the season when the veil between this world and the spirit world is at its thinnest. On a human level, Samhain invites us to delve deeper into the realm of our True Self, stepping away from the protective shell—the ego—that we habitually mistake for who we really are.

The Enneagram is a profound tool for this journey. Its purpose is to help expose the false beliefs you have developed about yourself since early childhood. It shows us how the demands of the “real” adult world began to overwrite the vivid imagination and intuition of our youth.

The Enneagram states that there are nine different types across three different centres. The “Head”, the “Heart” and the “Gut” and each of us falls into one distinct or dominant type.

There are no good or bad types in the Enneagram. All of the numbers from 1 to 9 have great redeeming features along with some compulsions too. These compulsions are where we step out of our true selves and enter the false egoic realm that has built a protective shell around us. Sounds great but that so called protection has stopped us from living our lives to the fullest. The ego is not necessarily a bad thing – in fact it’s quite the opposite but as the old adage goes – It’s a wonderful servant but a very poor master. So cultivating a healthy ego is so much part of our work. To help ourselves, others and indeed the entire world.

So, when we are controlled by the ego we are living out of our false selves and life can be quite unreal and troublesome and we can feel very disconnected. But when we control the ego, we are stepping up into our true selves and we come to see ourselves as we really are – warts and all. And we can then own our own shortcomings and with this new awareness we can begin the path of healing and step more fully into our true and beautiful self.

Acknowledging our compulsions as we all have them can be uncomfortable or even disturbing but taking on this work can truly liberate us from that critical, never changing pattern that keeps us down. So take the plunge and take courage. We will all hold each other as we venture on this quest.

What to Expect

  • Enneagram Exploration: We will study the nine Enneagram types in detail, helping you to discover and understand your own.
  • Embracing the Season: We will befriend the November twilight, answering its call to step into the liminal space—the threshold where the veil between our ego-self and True Self fades.
  • Time in Nature: We will spend intentional time outdoors, humbly bringing our questions to the wilderness so they may be mirrored by the objective, incorruptible truth of the natural world.
  • Council Circles: We will sit in council to honestly share our own stories and listen deeply to the stories of other men.
  • Fire and Fellowship: Weather permitting, we will gather around the fire. As much as the fire offers light, warmth, and companionship, it also calls us to transformation.

Are you ready to do the work? Space is limited, so sign up soon. I would be thrilled to stand beside you this November.

About Your Guide

My name is Arno Kohlhoff, I am a husband, father to an 18-year-old son, and companion to two dogs. I have travelled the world—both the outer one and, more importantly, the inner one. I have dedicated my life to the exploration of human nature and our potential for personal development.

I am an experienced psychotherapist, Enneagram professional, and soul worker. I am also an initiated man in the tradition of Richard Rohr (Men’s RITEs of Passage), deeply committed to working with men and encouraging them to step fully into the realm of authentic manhood.

Come to Castletown full of curiosity and a beginner’s mind, for, in the words of Shunryu Suzuki: “In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities; in the expert’s mind there are few.”

Along with the actual content of the gathering we will also drum so if you have one, bring it along with you. We will also spend time in silence and break up into smaller groups at intervals.

We’re Really looking forward to sharing time, space and our stories there. Give yourself this time for YOU. You will re-enter the world in a better and more grounded way.
